Jets place TE Baker on PUP list

Jul 21, 2008 - 9:19 PM HEMPSTEAD, New York (Ticker) -- New York Jets tight end Chris Baker, who had threatened to skip the team's training camp, was placed on the active physically unable to perform list Monday.

Coming off the best season of his career, the Michigan State product boycotted the Jets' offseason program because he feels the team reneged on a promise to re-negotiate his contract. He is entering the third season of a four-year contract worth $6.6 million.

Baker also is annoyed because recently signed backup Bubba Franks will make the same amount on a one-year deal. In addition, Baker will make less than rookie tight end Dustin Keller, a first-round pick.

Last season, the Queens, New York native caught 41 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns.

The Jets also placed linebacker Jason Trusnik on the PUP list. Trusnik appeared in six games for the Jets last season after being signed to the active roster on November 17 and recorded six tackles on special teams.
