Chiefs sign rookie OT Albert
Jul 24, 2008 - 3:43 PM RIVER FALLS, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- The Kansas City Chiefs agreed to terms with rookie offensive tackle Branden Albert, the second of their two first-round picks in this year's draft, on a five-year contract Thursday.Financial terms were not disclosed.
Taken with the 15th overall pick, the 316-pound Albert started all 37 games at Virginia and earned all-Atlantic Coast Conference first team honors last season as a junior.
The Chiefs need help on the offensive line after allowing an NFL-high 55 sacks last season and should received a boost from the 6-5 Albert, a versatile player who can be used at two positions. Last season, he started 11 games at left guard and two at left tackle for the Cavaliers.
Over his last 25 games, Albert allowed only 6.5 sacks and no pressures on 773 pass attempts.
No one has shouted yet.
