Jets TE Baker returns to practice

Aug 4, 2008 - 7:43 PM HEMPSTEAD, New York (Ticker) -- New York Jets tight end Chris Baker returned to practice Monday after being activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.

Baker, who had not participated in a full practice since December, had been sidelined with a back injury.

"They wouldn't let me back out here if I wasn't in shape," he said. "It's just different getting on the field and getting the pads on again."

In the spring, Baker ripped the Jets because they would not re-negotiate his contract. His has two years remaining on his current deal and will make $1.65 million this season.

"I'm not going to talk about the contract today," Baker said. "I'll let my people and (Jets management) handle that, so I'm just working on getting back on the field."

Baker is entering his seventh season with the Jets. Last year, he caught 41 passes for 409 yards and three touchdowns in 15 games.
