Redskins WR Kelly undergoes knee surgery

Aug 5, 2008 - 1:05 AM ASHBURN, Virginia (Ticker) -- Washington Redskins wide receiver Malcolm Kelly underwent arthroscopic surgery on Monday to remove loose particles in his left knee and is expected to be sidelined at least two weeks.

Kelly, who had previously been sidelined with a hamstring injury, did take part in several practices last week but did not play in the Redskins' 30-16 victory over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in the Hall of Fame game.

Selected 51st overall, Kelly was one of three second-round draft picks made by the Redskins in April.

Wide receiver Devin Thomas, who was the club's top pick this year, also remains sidelined with a hamstring injury. Washington coach Jim Zorn said he does not expect Thomas to be ready for Saturday's preseason game against the Buffalo Bills.

"I don't think Devin will be ready this week," Zorn said. "He is just getting to the stage where he can start running. For him, I just think he needs another week."

Thomas was also a second-round pick, chosen at No. 34 overall in the draft.
