Saints RB McAllister, TE Shockey out for preseason opener

Aug 5, 2008 - 2:12 AM JACKSON, Mississippi (Ticker) -- New Orleans Saints running back Deuce McAllister and tight end Jeremy Shockey will not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals, coach Sean Payton announced Monday.

Payton also said that wide receiver Devery Henderson and cornerbacks Mike McKenzie and Tracy Porter will also miss the preseason opener.

McAllister rushed for just 92 yards in three games last season before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in his NFL career. He had surgery on both knees during the offseason.

Shockey, who made 57 receptions for 619 yards and three touchdowns with the New York Giants in 2007, is coming off a broken leg suffered in December. He was acquired by the Saints via trade in the offseason.

McKenzie, who tore his right ACL late last season, made 45 tackles with three interceptions and two defensive touchdowns in 15 games. He is hoping to be ready for the start of the regular season.
