GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- While some Green Bay Packers fans are mourning the loss of beloved quarterback Brett Favre, the team may have another concern.

Star running back Ryan Grant missed his second straight practice Saturday due to a hamstring injury and his status for Monday's preseason opener against Cincinnati is uncertain.

Grant, who emerged as a rushing threat for the Packers last season, held out of the first week of training camp before signing a four-year contract that could be worth up to $30 million.

The Packers say Grant's injury is minor, but he has participated in only two full-contract practices.

"He needs to practice, obviously with the time he has missed with his contract and now with his injury," Green Bay coach Mike McCarthy said. "He definitely needs reps."

Acquired from the New York Giants for a sixth-round pick last year, Grant became the Packers' starter in the second half of last season and rushed for 956 yards and eight touchdowns. He then set a Green Bay postseason record by running for 201 yards - and three TDs - in a 42-20 NFC divisional playoff win over the Seatttle Seahawks.
