Bills QB Edwards hurt in practice

Aug 20, 2008 - 2:49 AM ORCHARD PARK, New York (Ticker) - Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards suffered a contusion to his quadriceps and had to leave practice on Tuesday night.

Edwards, the Bills' second-year starter, collided with running back Marshawn Lynch when he suffered the contusion, coach Dick Jauron said.

"It was a pretty deep one so they took him in, treated it quickly to try to get it before it maybe swelled or something," Jauron said.

Buffalo plays its third preseason game Sunday at Indianapolis, and Jauron said it was too early to tell if Edwards will be able to play.

"Just have to see what happens because sometimes you come back very quickly, sometimes they don't," Jauron said. "Sometimes it turns into a deep bleeding thing and we're hoping it's not that."

If Edwards is unable to go, Jauron will turn to J.P. Losman, who opened the 2007 season as the starter before being replaced by Edwards after a string of poor performances.

Jauron said Lynch's knee also was sore by the end of practice.
