Wes Welker injured his ribs when he was hit by Philadelphia's Joselio Hanson while fielding a punt in the first quarter. Welker went to the locker room and did not return.
Entering his second season with New England, Welker tied for the league lead with 112 receptions last season, helping the Patriots complete a perfect 16-0 regular season.
