ASHBURN, Virginia (Ticker) -- Washington Redskins defensive end Jason Taylor is expected to miss 10 to 14 days with a sprained right knee, coach Jim Zorn announced Sunday.
The injury puts Taylor's availability in doubt for the season opener against the Super Bowl champion New York Giants on September 4.
"I'm not ruling him out of the opener," Zorn said. "It'll be based on how he improves. But we'll be cautious."
Taylor, who was acquired by the Redskins from the Miami Dolphins last month, was hurt midway through the second quarter of Saturday's game against the Carolina Panthers. An MRI revealed the sprain.
"It looks like there is no ligament damage," Zorn said. "So we're just waiting to see what kind of a healer he is going to be."
A six-time Pro Bowl selection with the Dolphins, Taylor has recorded 117 sacks in 172 games. He also was the 2006 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
