BOSTON (Ticker) -- Tom Brady, who has been hobbled by a foot injury this summer, told a Boston radio station Monday that he expects to be ready for the New England Patriots' season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs on September 7.
A two-time Super Bowl MVP and last season's league MVP, Brady has missed the club's first three preseason games.
"If I don't play (Thursday against the New York Giants), then I'll be ready for Kansas City," Brady said on WEEI radio.
Brady, who threw a single-season record 50 touchdowns last year in leading the Patriots to a 16-0 regular season, said he is feeling fine despite the injury.
"I'm feeling very good. I'm feeling very good ... I was wishing I could play last week and it didn't happen," Brady told WEEI. "It will be the same thing this week. I'm hoping I'm out there and if I'm not, I'm not. I'm trying to get better as fast as I can, and in the ways I know how; it's been making improvements, there is no about it."
Brady did make a few brief appearances at practice last week. On Wednesday, he was throwing lightly and appeared to be moving without a limp.
