BEREA, Ohio (Ticker) -- Due to a continued slow recovery from several offseason surgeries, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Joe Jurevicius was placed on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) Tuesday.
The move means that Jurevicius will be ineligible for the first six weeks of the regular season. It also could jeopardize the career of the 33-year-old Cleveland native who has said that he plans to retire following the 2008 campaign.
Jurevicius will continue his rehab at the Browns' training facility, but will not be able to practice with the club while on the PUP list. He underwent four surgeries in the offseason, including three to remove staph from the scoped knee.
After the sixth week, the Browns have a three-week window to allow Jurevicius to start practicing with the team. Once he begins practice, they have three more weeks to determine his roster status.
The Penn State product played in all 16 games last season - his second with the Browns - and caught 50 passes for 614 yards and three touchdowns.
The Browns also placed wide receiver Kevin Kasper on the reserve/injured list and and waived defensive back Damon Jenkins, defensive lineman Brian Schaefering and running back Austin Scott. Cleveland made the moves to get down to the NFL-mandated 75-man roster.
Kaspar had been impressive during minicamp, but has been slowed by injuries throughout training camp, including head and neck injuries suffered in Saturday's preseason loss in Detroit.
