ORCHARD PARK, New York (Ticker) -- Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards returned to practice Tuesday, one week after he suffered a deep bruise above his right kneecap.

Edwards did not play in Buffalo's third preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, but may be available for Thursday's contest against the Detroit Lions.

The quarterback was injured on August 19 when he collided with running back Marshawn Lynch.

"This is definitely going in the right direction," Edwards said. "If I was talking to you last Thursday, I wasn't anywhere game playable so I'm happy with the progress I've made with the training room and trainers.

"Once it starts getting warmed up and blood gets flowing through there I feel like I'm getting close to 100 percent which is what I want to go to and the sooner I can get there, the better."

Edwards played in 10 games as a rookie last season, throwing for seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. The third-round pick out of Stanford compiled a 70.4 rating.
