Colts S Sanders out 4-6 weeks

Sep 17, 2008 - 2:42 PM INDIANAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Indianapolis Colts safety Bob Sanders will miss four to six weeks with a high ankle sprain.

The NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Sanders also could have arthroscopic knee surgery while he is recovering from the ankle injury, Colts president Bill Polian told WISH-TV during Tuesday night's weekly taping of his weekly show.

"He'll be back, that's for sure," Polian said. "At this point we're not sure of the severity, but I would say four to six (weeks) is probably the reasonable assumption."

Sanders, 27, suffered the injury to his right ankle during the second half of Sunday's 18-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

A two-time All-Pro, Sanders became the latest high-profile member of the Colts to join the injured list.

Indianapolis already has been without star tight end Dallas Clark (knee), Pro Bowl center Jeff Saturday (knee), starting left tackle Tony Ugoh (groin) and starting left guard Ryan Lilja (knee).

The 5-8 Sanders recorded career highs of 96 tackles, 3 1/2 sacks and two interceptions last season. The two-time Pro Bowler has 13 tackles over Indianapolis' first two games this year.
