GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy confirmed Wednesday that cornerback Al Harris suffered a "serious" spleen injury.

Harris suffered the injury during Sunday's 27-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He was in obvious pain on multiple occasions and came out of the contest twice, once after colliding with Packers linebacker A.J. Hawk in the first quarter.

McCarthy's comments were the first confirmation by the Packers that Harris had a spleen injury.

McCarthy said during his press conference that a cautious approach needs be taken, but he is not ruling out a possibility of Harris returning sometime this season.

"I'm hopeful that he'll be back," McCarthy said. "The time frame just hasn't been established."

One of the best bump-and-run defenders in the league, Harris has also been very durable. The 11-year pro has not missed a game in his career - a streak that will end Sunday when the Packers (2-1) visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1).

Harris recorded seven tackles in three games, and has 399 tackles and 19 interceptions in 163 games with the Packers and Philadelphia Eagles. He will be replaced by Tramon Williams, an undrafted second-year pro.
