Bengals QB Palmer out; Fitzpatrick to start
Sep 28, 2008 - 5:41 PM CINCINNATI (Ticker) - Cincinnati Bengals quarterback will not start Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns due to an elbow injury.Ryan Fitzpatrick will start in place of Palmer, who is listed as the emergency quarterback.
Palmer, who has started every game over the past three seasons, is coming off his best outing of the season in last week's loss to the New York Giants.
The former No. 1 overall pick was 27-of-39 for 286 yards and a touchdown - his first of the season - in the 26-23 overtime defeat that dropped Cincinnati to 0-3.
However, his name surfaced on the injury report Friday, although coach Marvin Lewis downplayed the severity of the ailment.
"Carson has told us he's going to be ready to play, but he developed some carry-over soreness from last week's game," Lewis said. "We are backing him off a little in practice today, so he has to be listed on the report."
Fitzpatrick was out of football last season and has not started a game since he was with the St. Louis Rams in 2005.
No one has shouted yet.
