Panthers LT Gross suffers concussion

Sep 28, 2008 - 10:26 PM CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) - Carolina Panthers left tackle Jordan Gross left Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons with a concussion.

Gross did not return to the game.

The injury occurred with 9:45 to play in the opening quarter. After Gross lay face down on the turf for several moments, a cart was brought onto the field.

However, Gross finally sat up and waived off the cart. He then walked off the field.

"I looked and he wasn't moving. It's a sickening feeling," Carolina quarterback Jake Delhomme said. "You realize right then and there that this is much bigger than the game. We could hear him. He was coming to. You prayed that everything is fine. I'm looking at extremities and saying, 'Move, move, move.' I just wanted to see that."

It is unknown whether Gross will be available for next week's home game vs. Kansas City.

"It was really scary," Panthers coach John Fox said. "Typically players and coaches think the worst. We were all scared for Jordan. We are happy that everything turned out the way it did."

The Panthers also saw left right tackle Jeff Otah leave the game with a strained ankle in the third quarter.

One of the team's two first-round picks in April, Otah also did not return, but he said he will be back for the game against the Chiefs.

"It's a little strain but it's feeling better," Otah said. "I am going to ice it and get ready for next Sunday."
