TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- The Green Bay Packers suffered a tough loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday. The may have lost quarterback Aaron Rodgers as well.
Rodgers injured his right shoulder in Sunday's 30-21 loss to Tampa Bay, casting doubt upon his availability for the Packers' next game.
The Packers have not disclosed any information on the injury, stating that they will update Rodgers' status on Monday.
"It's too early to tell (when he can return)," said Packers coach Mike McCarthy, who did not reveal if Rodgers would be able to play next week against Atlanta.
But Rodgers, playing his first season as Green Bay's starter, indicated that he could possibly have a separated shoulder.
"It felt like that's what possibly happened," Rodgers said. "But we're going to wait until tomorrow."
Rodgers suffered the injury while scrambling for a seven-yard gain with about five minutes remaining in the third quarter. He remained in the game and tossed a 48-yard touchdown pass to Greg Jennings on Green Bay's next possession.
"I hurt my shoulder on the possession in the third quarter, right before I threw the touchdown pass," Rodgers said. "I was not sure if I dislocated it or what."
Rodgers left the game in the fourth quarter and was replaced for two series by rookie Matt Flynn. He returned with Green Bay facing a 23-21 deficit only to throw an interception to Gaines Adams with 2:11 remaining.
Rodgers, who was sacked three times and threw three interceptions, did not return for Green Bay's final possession.
"Maybe he was able to go back in and play the one series," McCarthy said. "It was clearly a medical decision to hold him that one series and then it was OK to go back in. Then they felt it wasn't OK for him to go back out after the interception."
Rodgers, 24, has gotten off to a solid start in his first season as the heir apparent to Brett Favre in Green Bay. Through four games, Rodgers has passed for 961 yards and six touchdowns.
A former first-round draft selection, Rodgers had not thrown an interception prior to Sunday's loss.
