PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The injury news went from bad to worse for Brian Westbrook.
Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid announced Monday that Westbrook fractured two ribs in Sunday's 23-17 loss to the Washington Redskins.
It has not been determined how much time the Pro Bowl running back will miss.
"We'll see how things go here the next few days," Reid said. "Right now he's very sore."
An MRI exam on Monday revealed the injury, which occurred during Philadelphia's opening drive Sunday. Westbrook capped the march with a 9-yard scoring run but came off the field pointing to his ribs.
It was the first game back for Westbrook, who sprained his right ankle against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 21. He missed most of that game and was sidelined for the following week's loss to the Chicago Bears.
Westbrook, who is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, already has scored six touchdowns this year. He has rushed for 194 yards on 54 carries and has 14 receptions for 97 yards.
