ORCHARD PARK, New York (Ticker) -- Buffalo Bills coach Dick Jauron said Monday that it is too early to tell whether quarterback Trent Edwards will be able to practice this week.
Edwards suffered a concussion and was carted to the locker room early in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals. J.P. Losman, who opened the 2007 season as the starter, replaced Edwards.
"We follow a routine for any of our players that suffer a concussion, so that's what we'll do with Trent," Jauron said. "He was pretty good after the game, I spoke to him."
Jauron declined to say whether Edwards was feeling better on Monday and would not speculate if he will practice during the week.
"I'm obviously not a physician or a trainer, so I'm not going to go there," Jauron said. "I'm not going to anticipate anything. We're just going to stay on the protocol and as I said, we follow the same thing for any of our players that are in this situation.
"We always err on the side of caution."
Edwards was hurt on the Bills' first possession of Sunday's 41-17 loss, when he was hit and driven to the ground by Adrian Wilson. After completing a pass to James Hardy, Edwards was drilled to the turf, landing awkwardly on his left shoulder and hitting his head on the ground.
Buffalo has a bye this week and is off until it hosts San Diego on October 19.
"Hopefully he'll be fine as time goes by," Jauron said. "It's a good time to have a bye."
Edwards, who appeared in 10 games as a rookie, has had a strong second season in leading the surprising Bills to a 4-1 record.
The team's third-round pick in 2007, he is completing 66 percent (81-of-122) of his passes with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
