CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick will start Sunday against the New York Jets, while Carson Palmer continues to recover from an elbow injury.
Bengals coach Marvin Lewis made the announcement after Friday's practice.
"We're trying to get it not a week-to-week thing," Lewis said. "We want to get the thing calmed down so it doesn't give him any irritation or problems at all."
Lewis did not rule out Palmer as a backup for the contest, but refused to specify if he will be the No. 2 or No. 3 quarterback.
Fitzpatrick started two weeks ago in a 20-12 loss to the Cleveland Browns. He passed for 156 yards and a touchdown with three interceptions.
Palmer returned last week and enjoyed his best statistical game of the season, but Cincinnati (0-5) remained winless as it fell to the Dallas Cowboys, 31-22.
The 28-year-old Palmer passed for 731 yards and three scores with four interceptions over four games this season.
