Bengals QB Palmer to see elbow specialist

Oct 12, 2008 - 10:20 PM EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer will have his sore throwing elbow examined Monday by a New-York based surgeon.

Palmer was sidelined for the second time in three weeks during Sunday's 26-14 loss to the New York Jets. The two-time Pro Bowler revealed he would remain in New York to visit Dr. David Altchek, the team doctor for the New York Mets.

"(Altchek) is supposedly the best elbow guy," Palmer said. "He deals with a lot of baseball players. I'm not concerned it's season-ending. I wanted to get a second opinion."

Palmer was listed as the third-string quarterback Sunday for the Bengals (0-6), one of only two winless teams in the NFL.

"I'm not shutting anything down," he said. "As soon as I get clearance, I'm going to play, whether we're 9-6 or 0-15."

The No. 1 overall draft selection in 2003, Palmer has passed for 731 yards, three touchdowns and four interceptions in four games this season.
