BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- John McCargo is staying with the Buffalo Bills after all.
McCargo failed his physical on Wednesday, voiding the trade that sent him to the Indianapolis Colts for an undisclosed draft pick a day earlier.
The Buffalo News reported that the Colts discovered a bulging disk in the third-year defensive tackle's back. As a result, the deal was voided, and McCargo's rights will revert to the Bills.
A first-round pick in 2006, McCargo failed to live up to expectations with Buffalo, and was originally dealt to Indianapolis before Tuesday's trade deadline. He spent the majority of his rookie season on injured reserve and received media attention for passing out during training camp earlier that year.
A North Carolina State product, McCargo spent last season as a backup but played in all 16 games, recording 20 tackles and 2 1/2 sacks. The 25-year-old McCargo, who tips the scales at over 300 pounds, has received little playing time this season.
The newspaper also reported that McCargo could be released, rather than be forced to return to a team that doesn't want him.
