Eagles OL Andrews has back surgery
Oct 22, 2008 - 6:37 PM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Eagles could be without guard Shawn Andrews for the remainder of the season.Andrews underwent back surgery Tuesday and will be sidelined between six weeks and three months.
Eagles coach Andy Reid and head trainer Rick Burkholder made the announcement Wednesday, saying that Andrews will not be placed on injured reserve.
The operation was performed by Dr. Robert Watkins in Marina Del Ray, California, where Andrews will remain for at least five days.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Andrews injured his back in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys in Week Two and has not played since. The Eagles (3-3) have used Max Jean-Gilles at right guard since losing Andrews.
The 6-4, 331-pound Andrews rejoined the Eagles on August 9 after missing a portion of training camp to battle depression.
Andrews said at the time that he felt "lost" and "alone" but also revealed that Reid helped him work through the ordeal.
