NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- New York Jets receiver Laveranues Coles is expected to play in Sunday's contest against the Kansas City Chiefs despite suffering a concussion last week, according to a report Friday from the Newark Star-Ledger.

The newspaper reported that Coles is scheduled to see a neurologist Friday and if he's given a clean bill of health, which is expected, he'll be cleared to play.

Jets coach Eric Mangini said Thursday that Coles suffered a concussion during Sunday's 16-13 overtime loss to the Oakland Raiders.

Coles sustained the injury during the fourth quarter when he went head first into the turf while attempting to make a catch. He returned later in the contest.

The 30-year-old Coles, who has 30 receptions for 364 yards and four touchdowns this season, did not practice Wednesday and was limited in Thursday's session.

This was Coles' third head injury in the past 22 months.
