Cowboys TE Witten diagnosed with broken rib

Oct 28, 2008 - 7:33 PM IRVING, Texas (Ticker) -- Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl tight end Jason Witten was diagnosed Tuesday with a cracked rib but has not been ruled out of Sunday's game against the rival New York Giants.

The 26-year-old Witten, who leads the Cowboys with 46 receptions for 549 yards and two touchdowns this season, suffered the injury last Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He came back into the game but only played one more series.

The injury to Witten is another blow to the Dallas offense, which has struggled since quarterback Tony Romo and running back Felix Jones were injured in Week Six.

A third-round pick in 2003, Witten has not missed a game since his rookie season, when he missed one contest with a broken jaw.

If Witten does not play or is limited, rookie Martellus Bennett will attempt to fill the void. Bennett has eight catches for 145 yards and a score this season.

It also was revealed Tuesday that cornerback Anthony Henry has a slight quadriceps tear. He has also not been ruled out of Sunday's game.

Henry is part of a banged-up Cowboys secondary which is without cornerback Terence Newman and safety Roy Williams as well as suspended cornerback Adam "Pacman" Jones.
