GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- The Green Bay Packers are going to keep Aaron Rodgers around for a while.

The Packers secured the long-term services of Rogers on Friday, signing the young quarterback to a contract extension through the 2014 season.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but NFL.com is reporting that it is worth $65 million over six years with $20 million guaranteed.

"As we talked about in the past, we try to be proactive in our discussions with our current players and we felt like this was an appropriate time to try to come to an agreement with Aaron," Packers general manager Ted Thompson said. "We feel like this is good for the organization and the players, and we will continue this approach as we move forward."

The 24-year-old Rodgers has passed for 1,668 yards and 12 touchdowns with four interceptions this season.

A first-round pick in 2005, Rodgers spent his first three seasons as a backup to Brett Favre, who retired, unretired and then was traded to New York Jets this offseason.
