HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub has a torn MCL in his left knee and will be sidelined up to four weeks, the team announced Monday.

Schaub suffered the injury in the first half of Sunday's 28-21 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

After taking a number of hits in the opening 30 minutes - including a crushing one by Vikings defensive end Jared Allen on the first series - Schaub was replaced in the second half by Sage Rosenfels.

"I know it's going to keep him out at least a couple weeks. It could possibly be up to four," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said of the 27-year-old Schaub, who was seen on crutches after his MRI on Monday.

"Sage is the guy going into this week's game (against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday). We'll have to make a decision after that."

Schaub led the Texans (3-5) to a franchise-record three-game winning streak from October 12-26, a run that ended on Sunday. He matched a career high with three touchdown passes in a 35-6 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals on October 26.

This season, Schaub has thrown for 1,762 passing yards with 10 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

"It's very frustrating," Kubiak said. "He's been playing as good as anyone I've been around the last few weeks. It's sad because he's making a ton of progress."

Rosenfels finished Sunday's game by completing 21-of-29 passes for 224 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

"I have a lot of confidence in (Rosenfels)," Kubiak said. "He's played very good football for this team. This is an opportunity that he's been talking about all offseason."
