ENGLEWOOD, Colorado (Ticker) -- The Denver Broncos' backfield got a lot thinner Monday, as running backs Michael Pittman and Andre Hall were placed on injured reserve, ending their seasons.
Pittman, the Broncos' leading rusher with 320 yards, suffered a neck stinger in an October 20 loss to the New England Patriots. He started in Sunday's 26-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins but left in the first quarter after re-aggravating the injury.
Pittman had an MRI on Monday and, although the severity of the injury has not been disclosed, has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The Broncos already have been without expected starter Selvin Young, who has missed the last three games with a groin injury.
Hall, a backup who handles Denver's kickoff return duties, injured his left hand during Sunday's loss. He had previously been plagued by an ankle injury that limited him in practice this week.
In a separate move, the Broncos signed defensive tackle Matthias Askew to the practice squad.
