Texans LB Diles out for season with broken leg

Nov 6, 2008 - 5:13 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) - Houston Texans linebacker Zac Diles is out for the season after breaking his left leg during practice Wednesday.

Diles, the leading tackler for the Texans, was hurt during a routine special teams drill when he accidentally kicked himself, according to coach Gary Kubiak.

"He'll be gone for the year," Kubiak said Wednesday. "He's going to have to have a rod inserted. They're going to try to get that done tonight. We lost a kid that was becoming a great player. It's difficult on the football team to watch that today. We just wish him the best."

A seventh-round draft pick from Kansas State in 2007, Diles had a team-high 66 tackles with one sack and one interception for Houston (3-5).

"He's as good a player as we've got on defense, in the last month especially," Kubiak said. "He's been playing extremely well. Hadn't been a week go by probably that I haven't talked about him."

Veteran Kevin Bentley will start in Diles' spot against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
