Panthers RB Stewart sits out practice again

Nov 6, 2008 - 8:45 PM CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) - Carolina Panthers rookie running back Jonathan Stewart missed practiced for a second straight day Thursday, putting his availability in doubt for Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders.

Stewart, who leads the team with five rushing touchdowns, has a left heel injury. He was wearing a walking boot on the foot Thursday.

"The medical people said he wouldn't be able to go today," Panthers coach John Fox said. "It's day-to-day and we'll evaluate it tomorrow, but anytime you don't have a guy out there it's always concerning."

Stewart suffered the injury during Carolina's 27-23 victory over Arizona on October 26. Stewart had his worst performance of the season in that game, managing just 12 yards on 10 rushes.

The Panthers had a bye last weekend.

Running back DeAngelo Williams, who normally shares carries with Stewart, will see the bulk of the work if his rookie backfield mate cannot play Sunday.

"It's not definite that he won't play this week," Fox said of Stewart.

The No. 13 overall pick, Stewart has 96 carries for 362 yards and the five scores.
