Cowboys RB Jones nearing return

Nov 7, 2008 - 5:09 PM SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Ticker) - The Dallas Cowboys' backfield appears to be getting healthier by the day.

Injured quarterback Tony Romo is expected back for the Cowboys' game at Washington on November 16, and the news regarding running back Felix Jones is encouraging as well.

Dallas coach Wade Phillips told the San Antonio Express-News on Thursday that he is confident the rookie will return to practice Monday, with hopes of being ready for the game against the Redskins.

Jones has missed the last three games with an injured hamstring, but worked out on the side Thursday.

Phillips said Jones could have practiced with the team this week but was held out for precautionary reasons, considering there is no urgency with the Cowboys (5-4) on their bye this weekend.

One of the Cowboys' two first-round picks this past spring, Jones is averaging 8.9 yards per carry this season and has three touchdowns on 30 rushing attempts.

Romo, who has missed three games after suffering a broken pinkie finger on throwing hand, also is expected to return against Washington.
