Rams RB Jackson ruled out for Sunday

Nov 7, 2008 - 8:14 PM ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- St. Louis Rams coach Jim Haslett announced Friday that running back Steven Jackson has been ruled out of Sunday's contest against the New York Jets.

After Jackson missed his third consecutive practice Friday, Haslett reiterated his stance that the running back would not play if he could not practice.

"I guess you guys want to know about Steven. Obviously, he didn't practice, so he won't go this week," Haslett said. "(Antonio) Pittman practiced and he's a go."

After sitting out Week 8 with the injury, Jackson struggled during last Sunday's 34-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. He rushed for just 17 yards on seven carries.

Jackson has 525 rushing yards, 259 receiving yards and four touchdowns this season.

The unexpected return of Pittman should give the St. Louis (2-6) backfield a need boost with Jackson and Travis Minor not playing. Pittman is nursing an injured hamstring and was not expected back so quickly.

"It surprised me how fast he came back, but he told me he was going to be ready all week," Haslett said. "I said, 'Are you going to go out and practice Friday,' and he came out and did it."

Haslett said that Kenneth Darby will likely get the start and recently signed Samkon Gado will also receive time at the position.
