Raiders QB Russell game-time decision

Nov 9, 2008 - 12:23 AM OAKLAND, California (Ticker) -- The Oakland Raiders are coming off a historically bad loss, and now may be without quarterback JaMarcus Russell when they face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

Russell is listed as questionable with right knee tendinitis and will likely be a game-time decision.

The No. 1 overall pick of the 2007 draft, Russell missed practice Friday due to the injury, which dates back to his days at Louisiana State. If Russell does not play, Andrew Walter will make his ninth career start and first since December 23, 2006.

The 26-year-old Walter completed 27-of-37 passes for 227 yards and a pair of interceptions in his last start, a 20-9 loss to Kansas City in Week 16.

Though not by design, a change at quarterback may be beneficial for the woeful Raiders.

Oakland (2-6) was atrocious on offense in a 24-0 loss to Atlanta last week, recording a paltry 77 total yards - its worst showing in 47 years. In addition, the Falcons had more first downs (12) than the Raiders had net passing yards (10).

Russell, who has struggled all season, completed just 6-of-19 passes for 31 yards with one interception. He has completed just 48.6 percent of his passes, while throwing for 1,289 yards and six touchdowns and four interceptions.
