Packers LB Barnett has torn knee ligament

Nov 10, 2008 - 7:45 PM GREEN BAY, Wisconsin (Ticker) -- Green Bay Packers middle linebacker Nick Barnett suffered a torn knee ligament in Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings and is out for the season.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy on Monday said Barnett will undergo surgery on an undetermined date.

Barnett was injured on the opening series of the second half of Sunday's 28-27 loss to the Vikings. He did did not return to the game.

A first-round pick of the Packers in 2003, Barnett has appeared in 87 of 89 career games, recording more than 100 tackles in each of his first five seasons and collecting 11 1/2 sacks and nine interceptions.

The 27-year-old Barnett registered 49 tackles this season. He did not have a sack or a pick.
