ASHBURN, Virginia (Ticker) -- The Washington Redskins may be without the league's second-leading rusher for Sunday's showdown with the Dallas Cowboys.
Redskins coach Jim Zorn on Monday said running back Clinton Portis is "50-50" to practice this weekend due to a sprained knee.
Portis, who has 995 yards rushing - second to Minnesota's Adrian Peterson - and seven touchdowns, was injured in the team's 23-6 loss to Pittsburgh on November 3. Washington had a bye last weekend.
"He's questionable," Zorn said. "We need to get the pain out of his knee and see how he progresses along."
Portis was held to 51 yards on 13 carries against the Steelers, snapping a string of five consecutive games in which he had rushed for at least 121 yards.
The Redskins (6-3) trail the New York Giants (8-1) by two games for first place in the NFC East. Dallas is 5-4.
