Broncos re-sign RB Bell

Nov 11, 2008 - 10:11 PM ENGLEWOOD, Colorado (Ticker) -- The Denver Broncos fortified their depleted backfield Tuesday, signing running back Tatum Bell.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Bell was Denver's second-round draft pick in 2004 and spent three seasons with the club.

The former Oklahoma State running back was cut by the Detroit Lions in the summer. After being released, he was accused of stealing luggage from fellow running back Rudi Johnson.

Bell rushed for 1,025 yards for the Broncos in 2006, but was traded to the Lions with former first-round pick George Foster for cornerback Dre Bly prior to the start of the 2007 season.

The Broncos (5-4) have been decimated by injuries to their backfield all season, having placed three running backs on injured reserve this month.

Ryan Torain went on injured reserve Monday, joining Michael Pittman and Andre Hall. The Broncos signed free-agent running back Alex Haynes on Monday.

Selvin Young, who started the season as a starter, had one just carry for two yards in last week's 34-30 win over Cleveland before leaving the contest with a groin injury that had sidelined him the previous three games. He will be unavailable for Sunday's game at Atlanta.

Fullback Peyton Hillis was moved to tailback against Cleveland and rushed for 24 yards on eight carries.

To make room for Bell on the roster, Denver waived wide receiver Glenn Martinez.
