49ers RB Gore expects to play Sunday

Nov 14, 2008 - 2:57 PM SAN FRANCISCO (Ticker) -- San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore does not have a concussion and is expected to take the field Sunday when the team hosts St. Louis.

Gore said earlier this week that he suffered a concussion late in Monday night's 29-24 loss to Arizona.

He backed off those remarks Thursday and indicated he will be in the lineup for Sunday's battle of 2-7 teams at Candlestick Park.

"I'll be all right," Gore told the San Francisco Chronicle. "I think I jammed (my neck). I was out of it for a while. I'll be fine."

San Francisco coach Mike Singletary acknowledged that Gore was "tired, woozy" and "a little nauseous" at the end of Monday's game, but joked that the running back "is a football player" and "does not know what a concussion is."

"In all seriousness, Frank has a neck strain," Singletary said. "It may feel like a concussion. I talked to (head athletic trainer Jeff Ferguson), who is one of the finest trainers in the country. (Gore) does not have a concussion. He's good to go."

Gore, who last sustained a concussion in 2006, said he was not given a diagnostic test by the team's medical staff to determine if he had a concussion.
