Fisher tries to diffuse comments by RB White

Nov 25, 2008 - 4:17 PM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher does not think the inflammatory comments made by running back LenDale White following the team's first loss of the season will cause any lingering problems.

Still, it could be a distraction for the Titans, who cruised to a 10-0 start before suffering a 34-13 defeat to the New York Jets last week.

Fisher said Monday that he and White reached "an understanding" after the running back popped off after playing only three snaps against the Jets. White carried just once for minus-one yards and also dropped a pass.

"I only played three plays, so I really couldn't tell you what happened," said White, who confronted Tennessee running backs coach Ernest Byner on the sidelines during the game. "I don't really know. I wasn't paying attention. I didn't really care."

Fisher, who is known for his even-handed approach, said he later spoke with White in his office and did not indicate if any disciplinary action would be forthcoming.

"I am a little disappointed that he expressed himself - which they are entitled to do - with his frustration before he came to me," Fisher told The Tennessean. "We got things settled. It is just one of those things that happened, but we cleared the air and everything is fine and we moved on."

White rushed for 1,110 yards last season, but his carries have been limited this season with the emergence of rookie Chris Johnson.

While has 123 carries for 469 yards and 11 touchdowns, while Johnson has gotten the ball 187 times for a team-high 833 yards and five TDs.

"Having an opportunity to think about it, (White) regrets what he did and he obviously puts the team first and he was frustrated," Fisher added.

Fisher said "there is probably a pretty good chance" that White will play in Thursday's game against the 0-11 Detroit Lions, who have the NFL's worst run defense.

White has not yet discussed his comments.
