Panthers give CB Gamble six-year extension

Nov 29, 2008 - 1:53 AM CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (Ticker) -- The Carolina Panthers signed cornerback Chris Gamble to a six-year extension on Friday.

The deal is worth $53 million, including $23 million in guaranteed bonuses.

"Chris is an extremely talented player and is playing at a high level," Carolina general manager Marty Hurney said. "He started his career with us and this extension is another step toward the possibility of his finishing his career as a Panther."

Gamble, 25, was a first-round pick of the Panthers in 2004. This season, he has two interceptions and 17 passes defended. He has 19 career interceptions.

"Just knowing that I'll be in Carolina is very important," Gamble said. "I don't have to worry about looking for another team to approach me or anything like that. I can just stay focused knowing I'm going to be a Carolina Panther for seven more years. It's just very exciting."
