Lions place WR Furrey on injured reserve

Dec 1, 2008 - 10:36 PM ALLEN PARK, Michigan (Ticker) - The Detroit Lions on Monday placed wide receiver Mike Furrey on season-ending injured reserve with concussion-related symptoms.

Furrey sat out the last three games due to the injury. The Lions signed wide receiver Keary Colbert to take his spot on the roster.

"We made this move to protect Mike and to do what's best for this football team," Detroit general manager Martin Mayhew said. "Over the past few weeks, Mike made several attempts to participate in practice in hopes of returning to the field, but each time he removed himself from practice when dizziness or nausea, related to the concussion, occurred.

Furrey had just 18 receptions for 181 yards and zero touchdowns this season. He is just two seasons removed from a career year, when he registered 98 catches for 1,086 yards and six TDs.

Colbert appeared in seven games for the Seahawks this season, registering just seven receptions for 52 yards. He spent the previous four seasons with the Carolina Panthers.

Detroit is the league's only winless team with an 0-12 record.
