Browns QB Quinn opts for surgery

Dec 2, 2008 - 7:50 PM BEREA, Ohio (Ticker) -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Brady Quinn has opted to undergo surgery on his broken right index finger, the team announced Tuesday.

The Browns said the surgery will be performed Wednesday in Alabama by hand specialist Dr. Thomas Hunt. Quinn is expected to make a full recovery in the next six to 10 weeks.

The other option for Quinn would have been to keep his finger immobilized in a splint.

The second-year player was placed on the injured reserve list last Wednesday, ending his season after he made three starts in place of Derek Anderson, who was benched due to ineffectiveness.

Quinn suffered the injury in a 29-27 win over Buffalo on November 17. The former Notre Dame star was able to start the following week in a 16-6 loss to Houston, but was benched after throwing his second interception.

The reeling Browns got more bad news in last week's 10-6 loss to Indianapolis when Anderson went down with a season-ending knee injury.

The Browns will start third-string quarterback Ken Dorsey in Sunday's game against Tennessee. Dorsey has not started since 2005 when he was with San Francisco.

The 22nd pick of the 2007 draft, Quinn completed only 8-of-18 passes for just 94 yards against the Texans, and the injury likely contributed to the poor performance.

Quinn completed 48-of-97 passes for 563 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in his three starts.
