Texans QB Schaub eyes Sunday return

Dec 3, 2008 - 4:19 PM HOUSTON (Ticker) -- The Houston Texans hope to have quarterback Matt Schaub back under center when they play at Green Bay this Sunday.

Schaub has been sidelined since suffering a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee against Minnesota on November 2.

Though he didn't get into the game, Schaub served as the backup to Sage Rosenfels in Monday's 30-17 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"If everything goes OK this week, then expectations are that he goes back into his role as our starter," coach Gary Kubiak told reporters Tuesday. "All indications are that he'll be fine, but let's wait and see how he works this week."

The Texans have gone 2-2 under Rosenfels, though their playoff hopes are virtually over at 5-7.

Kubiak indicated that Schaub has been lobbying hard to get back on the field.

"I mean, he was beating my door down last week telling me he was ready," said Kubiak, adding he wanted to give Schaub one more week of rest. "... There are players that don't think they can go that you have to push to go.

"Then there are guys that tell you, 'Hey, I'm fine. I'm playing,' and you have to stop them and say, 'No, not yet.' That's just part of what we do."

Kubiak said doctors and team officials are all in agreement that Schaub is ready to play.
