Jaguars RB Taylor could be out for season

Dec 10, 2008 - 7:50 PM JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Jacksonville Jaguars running back Fred Taylor could miss the rest of the season with torn ligament in his thumb, head coach Jack Del Rio said on his radio show Wednesday.

Del Rio told WOKV690-AM that Taylor could be placed on injured reserve, another blow in a disappointing season for the Jaguars (4-9), who entered the season with Super Bowl aspirations.

Taylor, 32, suffered the injury a 23-10 loss to Chicago on Sunday. The 11-year veteran ran for 53 yards on 13 carries before departing. Taylor has rushed for 556 yards and one touchdown in 13 games.

The longest-tenured Jaguar, Taylor is 16th on the NFL's all-time rushing list with 11,271 yards, but has been slowing getting phased out of the game plan thanks to the emergence of Maurice Jones-Drew.

Jones-Drew will shoulder the load if Taylor is indeed done for the season. The 5-7, 208-pound bowling ball of a tailback has rushed for 607 yards on 143 carries and 11 TDs in 13 games.
