Jaguars place WR Porter on IR

Dec 16, 2008 - 9:57 PM JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Jerry Porter's disappointing first season in Jacksonville is over.

The Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday placed the underachieving wide receiver on injured reserve with a groin injury.

The Jaguars, who have been searching for a No. 1 receiver since the retirement of Jimmy Smith in 2006, thought they had found his replacement when they signed Porter to a six-year, $30 million deal in the offseason.

However, Porter suffered a hamstring injury in training camp and never fully recovered. The nine-year veteran caught just 11 passes for 181 yards and a touchdown in 10 games.

The Jaguars also placed linebacker Daryl Smith and defensive tackle Tony McDaniel on IR. Smith suffered a groin injury in Sunday's win over Green Bay. The defensive captain had started 13 games while leading the team with 130 tackles.

McDaniel finished with 22 tackles and a half-sack in 10 games.

Jacksonville signed defensive back Calvin Lowry and guard Cameron Stephenson to fill the roster spots.
