Bills may start QB Hamdan this weekend

Dec 17, 2008 - 4:24 PM BUFFALO, New York (Ticker) - With their once-promising season in shambles, the Buffalo Bills might take a look at quarterback Gibran Hamdan this weekend.

The Bills (6-8) are out of the playoff contention heading into Sunday's game at Denver (8-6), and with the recent play of J.P Losman, coach Dick Jauron isn't ruling anything out.

"I wouldn't say that I wouldn't (play Hamdan)," Jauron told the Buffalo News. "It will take a little bit of time in the next couple of days as we get ready for Denver. We'll talk things over and see."

Hamdan has not played an NFL game since making his lone appearance for the Washington Redskins in 2003, when he completed 1-of-2 passes for seven yards.

Nonetheless, the 27-year-old could get another chance this weekend, assuming Trent Edwards is unable to return from the groin injury that has sidelined him the past two weeks.

"I prepare myself week in and week out as if I'm going to play," Hamdan told the Buffalo News. "That's not going to change for me. It's not something I control, in terms of where it goes. I'm going to do the same thing every week, as boring as it sounds."

Its not surprising the Bills want to take a look at what they have in Hamdan, considering Losman has bumbled his way through the past two games.

In a 16-3 loss to Miami on December 7, Losman was 13-of-27 for 123 yards with an interception. In last Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Jets, he threw three interceptions and his fumble with just over two minutes remaining was returned for the winning score.

The Bills selected Losman with the 22nd overall in the 2004 draft, but his contract expires after this season and its highly unlikely the team will try to retain him.
