Bills QB Edwards returns to practice

Dec 17, 2008 - 11:39 PM ORCHARD PARK, New York (Ticker) -- Buffalo Bills quarterback Trent Edwards returned to practice on Wednesday on a limited basis, and could start this week against the Denver Broncos.

Earlier reports indicated that the Bills would possibly start third-stringer Gibran Hamdan since J.P. Losman has struggled. However, Edwards' return seems imminent.

The second-year pro's lingering groin injury has healed to the point where he can practice for the first time in two weeks.

"There is no more pain in there, that's why I'm practicing," Edwards said. "The issue now is to make sure I'm getting enough reps, but make sure I'm not developing any pain in there."

"He moved pretty well," Bills head coach Dick Jauron said. "He says he feels good and we'll see how it progresses through the week."

Edwards has completed 214-of-324 passes for 2,378 yards with 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 12 games. His return would be welcome, considering Losman has bumbled his way through the past two games.

In a 16-3 loss to Miami on December 7, Losman was 13-of-27 for 123 yards with an interception. In last Sunday's 31-27 loss to the Jets, he threw three interceptions and his fumble with just over two minutes remaining was returned for the winning score.

The Bills selected Losman with the 22nd overall in the 2004 draft, but his contract expires after this season and its highly unlikely the team will try to retain him.
