Redskins DE Taylor: 'I'm not worth $8 million'
Dec 18, 2008 - 8:15 PM WASHINGTON (Ticker) - Defensive end Jason Taylor thought he was heading for greener pastures when the Miami Dolphins granted his trade request and shipped him to the Washington Redskins in July.Turns out, the six-time Pro Bowler may have been better off staying put.
While the Redskins (7-7) have faded out of the playoff picture in the NFC, the Dolphins (9-5) are vying for the AFC East title, just a year removed from a one-win season.
With another lost season to ponder, the 34-year-old Taylor remains hopeful that he will find his way into a Super Bowl before the end of his career.
And he told Washington radio station WFJK-FM on Thursday that he understands he may not accomplish that goal in a Redskins uniform, especially considering his pay versus his performance this season.
"I'm a realist," said Taylor, a guest on the radio station's morning show. "You can tell me the truth, and I'm fine with that. Because at the end of the day, most of us know the truth and some times some guys are just afraid to admit it, but I'm not worth $8 million.
"You know what, I'll tell you, I may not be worth $8 million, but I know one thing, this dog can still hunt. This dog can still hunt. Put me in the right situation, the right position and I'll hunt all day."
Taylor, who has 1 1/2 sacks and 25 tackles in 11 games this season, also was asked if he'd be surprised the Redskins decided to part ways with him after the season.
"Would I be surprised? No," Taylor said. "If I'm not back, I wouldn't be surprised. ... And I'm not worth it, so I would not be surprised at all."
In return for Taylor, the Dolphins received Washington's 2009 second-round draft pick and 2010 sixth-round pick.
No one has shouted yet.
