Redskins RB Portis idled by back spasms

Dec 19, 2008 - 8:27 PM ASHBURN, Virginia (Ticker) -- Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis sat out practice Friday due to back spasms and is listed as questionable for Sunday's home game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Redskins coach Jim Zorn said he expects Portis to be available to face the Eagles.

"It would have to be pretty severe for him to stay out," Zorn said. "I think it's something he wants to try to get through. So that's what we're doing."

Portis has played through several ailments this season, including knee, neck and oblique injuries. He has not missed a game, but his production has dropped dramatically.

In his last three games, Portis has rushed for just 131 yards. He had six 100-yard games this season, including five in a row for the Redskins (7-7), who remain mathematically alive in the playoff race.

Portis still ranks third in the NFL in rushing with 1,337 yards.
