Hurting Broncos sign pair of RBs
Dec 24, 2008 - 12:42 AM ENGLEWOOD, Colorado (Ticker) -- After losing seven running backs to injuries this season, the Denver Broncos brought in some reinforcements on Tuesday. The Broncos signed Cory Boyd and Alex Haynes, two days after they lost Selvin Young (back) and P.J. Pope (hamstring) for the season in a 30-23 loss to Buffalo.
Both players were with the team at different points this season, and will back up Tatum Bell in this week's key game at San Diego (7-8). The winner will claim the AFC West title.
Boyd, a seventh-round draft selection by Tampa Bay, was waived by the Buccaneers last summer. He has yet to register a carry in the NFL. A second-year pro, Haynes has three career rushes, three career receptions with Baltimore and Carolina.
Long known for its prolific rushing attack, Denver (8-7) has endured pronounced rash of injuries at the running back position.
Young and Pope became the sixth and seventh running backs to be lost for the season. The Broncos have also lost rookie Ryan Torain (knee), Michael Pittman (spine), Anthony Alridge (leg), Peyton Hillis (hamstring) and Andre Hall (hand).
No one has shouted yet.
