Former Browns QB Holcomb retires
Dec 24, 2008 - 3:24 PM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Kelly Holcomb has officially retired from the NFL.The veteran quarterback had said this past summer that he was walking away from the sport, but made nothing official and actually fielded offers from several NFL teams this season.
However, the 35-year-old told The Tennessean on Tuesday that he has submitted his retirement paperwork to the league office.
"I had the papers sitting on my desk for about a week and really wasn't sure I wanted to fill them out," said Holcomb, who spent parts of the 2007 season with Philadelphia and Minnesota. "But I finally went ahead and did it. And that's that."
Holcomb, who made his NFL debut with Indianapolis in 1997, played 23 of his 41 career games with Cleveland from 2001-04.
Never appearing in more than 10 games in a season, Holcomb tossed 39 touchdowns and 38 interceptions during his career, which also included stops in Tampa Bay and Buffalo.
Holcomb currently hosts his own show on a Nashville radio station.
